The firm came about as a merger of a pool of young landscape design talent and leading placemaking professionals who bring together under one roof a shared folio of sustainable design of local and international projects. This enriched experience covers varied contexts of the humid tropics and the extreme challenges of arid-zone placemaking. The collective experience of our Principals and staff, spanning some +38 years, allows us to flexibly work from plot-level to township scale while bringing in best practices gained from local and international engagements.
Our local presence extends beyond Metromanila into the Visayas and Mindanao regions where our field offices service the needs of resort and leisure destinations, local government units [LGUs] and provincial governments in shaping their urban futures. We assist in the interlocking initiatives in leisure and recreation, tourism, agronomy, resource conservation and green infrastructure.
Even before LEED went fad and green got gold, our practical experience spanning over 38 years underpins our interdisciplinary outlook and our overarching mesh with fit-to-purpose sustainable design. Our hands-on experience in both the humid tropics and arid-zone environments brings together the synergies of climate-appropriate design adaptations, resource conservation, a rich understanding of various cultural and historical contexts, urban-rural dynamics and code-compliance. All these goes into the creative and practical thinking behind our plans and designs.
Over this, we fold in our Clients' corporate branding and market positioning that include upscale, iconic projects within sensitive environmental concerns.
Hinged on contexts we take from the site itself and the project's specific requirements, we approach the planning and design of the site with a suite of methodologies to ensure the best fit as possible of intent to the site. This allows us to deliver projects that gain true meaning for their owners, engendering a sense of pride-of-place with practical outcomes.
We understand the power of green spaces in social behavior, and work in natural systems and processes into our projects.
Our familiarity with complex building systems and natural processes allows us deep insights into a site's attributes. By uncovering these attributes in thematic analysis, we let the site dictate its best potentials forward, yielding the highest best use to the project.
The urban form, with all its component landscape elements and site furniture, need to engage well with its users in a safe, convenient and comfortable way.
With man as the measure, we design fit-to-purpose elements that are ergonomic and universally accessible.
We fold in and interpret the Client's desired or aspired branding for the project, translating these into a coherent, practical urban form with its supporting landscape systems, assemblies and elements that best express this branding.
Inclusive design that allows universal access for the mobility-challenged remains a major pillar of our design philosophy. Our approach is not to segregate spaces that stigmatize the elderly and handicapped, but rather fold in their needs into the overall site design allowing inclusive interaction.
Nature's hidden code in its abundant patterns, linkages, structures and processes inspires our work. We fold these practical lessons into our plan layouts, system assemblies and component details that add to an overall sustainable form and function. Our goal is to deliver easy-to-maintain, viable climate and environment-appropriate solutions.
We fit-to-purpose our plans and designs to comply with prevailing national codes and regulations, including local ordinances and policy documents to meet development permitting and approvals. Where conflicts or gray areas arise, we assist in providing a singular unified interpretation that manifests in the final site development plans.
Our understanding and working familiarity with complex built-environment systems and ecosystem processes of natural environments allows us the ease to work with interdisciplinary teams in architecture + engineering [A+E] and sustainability.
Working with some of the premier A+E design consulting and sustainability rating firms in the country as strategic partners and interface professionals, we co-deliver total placemaking solutions on the ground.
An added layer of our interface includes aligning site plans and designs with third-party specialist consultants for facilities management, hotel + resort operations and site security.
Our Principals have been influencers and thought leaders behind some of the landmark events in institution-building in the Philippines. The passage of legislation and empowering professional practice in the Philippines was a watershed event for future generations of landscape architects made possible by our Principals' longterm vision.
In addition, professional advise on branding and imaging resulted in iconic works of urban design in planned developments and the fitful restoration of best practices in landscape architecture overseas where our Principals had presence.
Our Principals were instrumental in the sustained lobbying with the Senate and Congress for Republic Act 9053 [The Landscape Architecture Law] which was passed into law in 2001.
The law effectively set the stage for better and wider recognition of the landscape architecture profession in the country. This visibility has immensely leveraged the practice of landscape architecture as a mainstream built-environment service.
Although part of building design, the minarets of this contemporary Islamic Centre were persuaded to be retained in their original design to function as site beacons as an orientating feature for Education City, the iconic academic campus in Qatar.
This bold intervention for this facility was part of a larger effort in design reviews for a dozen other major facilities within the sprawling campus.
Original pieces of one-of-a-kind themed environmental art installations were designed along minimalist lines for the diplomatic quarters of the Bayan Palace in Kuwait.
While doubling up as public art, these boldly stark water features, strung like jewels along a linear park, were deliberately designed as a series of low-flow, low-volume systems in keeping with water and energy conservation.
The restoration of a number of tolerant low-maintenance species [eg. Nerium oleander] was argued for their sustainability and as fit-to-purpose plant palette for use in Kuwait's public realm wherever toxicity risks were low.
Our Principals advocated and contributed to educate key decisionmakers on sensible, appropriate and function-based planting design beyond mere beautification, with biodiversity initiatives in Qatar's public realm landscaping
As institution-builders, our Principals had been in, and continue to mediate in ongoing dialogues with key players in the design consulting industry, the academe and the Philippine Association of Landscape Architects [PALA] in raising the standards and protocols of professional practice.
Active in lecture circuits and publications, our Principals continue to shape the future of landscape architecture practice locally and internationally.
